Dating a winchester 94 by serial number
Since 1964 the Winchester Repeating Arms Company (now the United States Repeating Arms Company) has produced special, limited edition Model 94 rifles and carbines to commemorate significant events, people, places or periods in United States or Canadian history.
All of these special firearms were manufactured for only one year and were produced in limited quantities and have special serial numbers not in the regular production range. All have various levels of embellishment which highlight the event or person being honored including engraving, silver, gold or pewter plating of the receiver and other parts of the gun, as well as higher grades and figure of wood in the stocks and forends.
Winchester 73's were manufactured in the following caliber's --22 short --22 long --32-20--38-40--44-40 .
